Dates and Facts About the Regiment

20 APR 42 - a cadre of 7 officers and 73 enlisted men from Camp Bowie, Texas, transfer to Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.
6 MAY 42 - The 332nd Special Service Regiment activated into existence by General Order #43, Headquarters Third Army, San Antonio, Texas. The Regiment was formed at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.
6 MAY 42 - Colonel Helmer Swenholt, CE 0-9251 (Universtiy of Wisconsin, Engineering 1909) appointed the first Commanding Officer
JUN 42 - 332nd Regiment status changed from "Special Service Regiment" to "General Service Regiment".
20 JUL 42 - 332nd General Service Regiment right Camp Claiborne for Fort Kilmer, NJ. Three trains were required to move the regiment. At full strength it was almost 1400 men with 52 officers..
5 AUG 42 - 332nd embarks upon the "USS ARGENTINA".
5 AUG 42 - "USS ARGENTINA" slips moorings and joins convoy for crossing the Atlantic.
7 AUG 42 - "USS ARGENTINA" arrives at the Firth of Clyde, Scotland (near Glasgow).

2 MAY 45 - Work begins on "Operation Huckleberry", the VICTORY BRIDGE across the Rhine at Duisberg
5 MAY 45 - As World War II ended in Europe, the 332nd General Service Regiment continued in the Army of Occupation.
8 MAY 45 - The first locomotive passes over the VICTORY BRIDGE, 2815 feet long, a RECORD construction time of 6 days, 15 hours & 20 minutes!
29 JUN 45 - Regiment Awarded Superior Operation Plaque
28 NOV 45 - Colonel Helmer Swenholt retires from Army. Lt. Col. Hocker appointed commander of 332nd
21 JAN 46 - Lt. Col. Hocker redeployed.
2 FEB 46 - Col. Chester A. Rowland assigned commanding officer of 332nd.
1 APR 46 - 1st Bn relieved from Berlin District, returned to Regiment. 332nd Regiment was assigned to Europen Aviation Engineer Command. 1st Bn assigned to work at Oberpfaffenhofen Airfield in Munich, Regimental HQ and 2nd Bn moved to Weisbaden Airfield to work in that area.
4 MAY 46 - 332nd Awarded Meritorious Service Unit Plaque
6 MAY 46 - 332nd celebrates Organization Day at Luftwaffe base at Erbenhein (near Weisbaden, Germany)
28 JAN 47 - 332nd is deactivated
JUN 50 - 332nd is reactivated and sent to Korea.
AUG 53 - 332nd returns to the United States and is permanently deactivated with due ceremony.
